Alexis Gelburd-Kimler - Biography
Alexis Gelburd-Kimler began in the restaurant industry as so many do—waiting tables. A communications major in college, Alexis had her sights set on her dream job in television and headed for NYC to take a job at CBS. She soon found that corporate America was not her calling and missed the active pace of the dining room and the camaraderie among restaurant staff.
Alexis moved to Boston where she sought out varied and challenging positions at some of Boston’s top restaurants. In 2004 she was a manager at the Beacon Hill Bistro, a classic French restaurant on the flat of Beacon Hill. Involved in the development of their bar she had an introduction to the challenges of creating a new space. In 2005 she joined the team at Craigie on Main as general manager, working alongside award-winning chef Tony Maws, whose drive and passion were an inspiration. She went on to take a position at The Blue Room with owner Nick Zappia, learning firsthand the importance of presence on the dining room floor.
Her communications degree has served her well in working with the public and the staff and in avidly promoting the restaurants for which she has worked. In 2009, she signed on with the Aquitaine Group as the general manager of their flagship location in the South End, where she gained the confidence and skills to go out on her own. Her dedication and commitment helped the restaurant to flourish in spite of the economic malaise of the times. In 2011 she signed a lease to begin construction on her own Kendall Square restaurant, which is slated to open in 2012.
