Chef Bernard Guillas of The Marine Room - Biography

A native of Brittany, Bernard Guillas is Executive Chef at both La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club and The Marine Room, a destination restaurant in La Jolla, California. He has appeared in Food Arts magazine, and on PBS’s “Rising Chefs,” and the Discovery Channel’s “Great Chefs of the World” television series. In 2004, he was awarded “Chef of the Year” by Chef Magazine. An avid culinary explorer and world traveler, Guillas shares his journeys from around the world in his first cookbook, Flying Pans: Two Chefs, One World, with co-author Chef Ron Oliver. In June 2011, Flying Pans was awarded both the coveted “Best Cookbook, Chef or Restaurant Category,” and “People’s Choice” awards by the International Association of Culinary Professionals. When he’s not cooking or writing or traveling, Guillas devotes time to philanthropic pursuits like Slow Food, The Beard House Foundation, Chaine des Rotisseurs, and AIWF.
