Photographer Daniel Krieger - Biography
If there’s anything tantalizing about photography—being forever on the other end of an alluring subject, a lens-length away from touching the stuff of art—Daniel Krieger knows a thing or two about it. Krieger’s made his life in food photography, and now counts himself among New York City’s top practitioners.
But it’s not just food Krieger has encountered. Over the course of his extensive—and still energetic—career, Krieger’s work has brought him through some of the city’s most esteemed dining rooms and kitchens. He’s photographed and worked closely with chefs like Masaharu Morimoto, Paul Liebrandt, Eric Ripert, Tom Colicchio, David Chang, and Johnny Iuzzini, among many others. Krieger has an eye for light and framing that gives his subject matter an added dimensionality, reflecting the greater depth of an evolving food culture, and earning Krieger exposure everywhere from Esquire to Bon Appétit, Gourmet, GQ, The Wall Street Journal, The London Times, The New York Times, and Edible publications—again, to name a few.
Award-laden, but not weighed down, Krieger’s now head photographer of Eater.com. He has also shot several cookbooks, including the recent Ivan Ramen Love, Obsession, and Recipes, and The Old Fashioned by Robert Simonson. When he’s not working, Krieger can be found fueling up at his favorite restaurants, no doubt getting delightedly hands-on with his subject.
