Wine Consultant Jamie Smith - Biography

December 2014

Growing up in England, Jamie Smith originally wanted to be a chef. At the age of 13, he spent his spare time washing dishes at a bistro behind his parents' house for extra pocket money. At 18, Smith decided to enroll at Bournemouth University to study hospitality management.

In 2004, Smith ventured across the pond as part of the opening team of IndeBleu in Washington, D.C. He took on all front of house roles to gain the full spectrum of service experience, that’s when he fell into wine. Guided by the wine staff, Smith learned all he could about wine until he moved on to work in wine sales and began his studies to become a certified sommelier. Eventually, Smith would come onto the the team at Veritas as the general manager and sommelier, where he stayed until its recent closing. Smith has since flown back to England where he has started his own restaurant and wine consultancy service, SommServices.com.
