Sommelier Morgan Fausett of Proof - Biography

Washington, D.C.

December 2014

Morgan Fausett’s first introduction to wine was a glass of German Riesling at the age of 16 with an exchange program host family in Germany. But it was years later after she moved to D.C. in 2004 to attend George Washington University that she grew her passion for wines. A Philadelphia native who majored in international affairs and German traveled throughout Europe and had lived in Vienna, Austria, where she was smitten by its different wine regions and terroirs. Upon coming back from Europe, Fausett made the bold decision to become a sommelier instead of pursuing a career in international affairs.

Hungry to learn more, Fausett has taken many rigorous courses beyond the standard path to becoming a sommelier. She received Intermediate Level certification from Wine & Spirit Education Trust and is a Certified Specialist of Wine with the Society of Wine Educators. Her proudest moment, to date, is passing a certified exam with the Court of Masters Sommelier. A Certified Sommelier, Fausett receives full, unconditioned support from her husband, 2014 Rising Star Chef Austin Fausett, who masters the savory side of the industry and currently serves as executive chef at Trummer’s On Main in Clifton, VA.

Before landing the position of sommelier at Proof, Fausett honed her wine skills throughout D.C., working as beverage director at Del Campo, assistant general manager and sommelier at The Oval Room, and general manager and sommelier at Vinoteca.
