Rising Star Chef Tyler Burnley of Thames Street Kitchen - Biography

2014 Coastal New England Rising Star Chefs Chad Hoffer and Tyler Burnley met back in 2005, while they were both working in the busy kitchen at BLT Prime in New York City. The duo had chemistry, and not just between each other. Hoffer and Burnley became fast friends and ended up marrying twin sisters Julia and Anna Jenkins. Maybe in a further effort to keep it all in the family, or leave the hectic pace of a big city behind, Hoffer and Burnley traded New York for the hometown of their wives, Newport, Rhode Island.

By summer 2011, they opened Thames Street Kitchen, a chef-driven “hole in the wall” of a restaurant where synergy, slight of hand, and laser focus on minimal ingredients and maximum flavor meets an intentionally relaxed atmosphere. With the opening of their second spot, Mission, in downtown Newport, Hoffer and Burnley have opened a dream of a burger joint for Newporters, and given their friendship at least one more outlet for serious satisfaction.
