The New England Culinary Institute Announces Call for Entries
For the Taste of New England Dessert Recipe Contest

Montpelier, VT, July 21, 2003  A $10,000 scholarship is in store for the first place winner of the New England Culinary Institutes (NECI) Taste of New England Dessert Recipe Contest. Contestants must submit a completed application packet along with their recipe for a dessert highlighting ingredients native to the six New England states.

The second place winner will receive a $7,500 scholarship and the third place winner will receive $5,000. Scholarships will be applicable to the March 2004 term of the Associates Degree in Culinary Arts.

The contest was conceived by NECIs VP of Culinary Affairs, Chef Michel LeBorgne, Maitre Cuisinier de France. Chef LeBorgne will be judging the entries along with distinguished NECI graduates Nancy Kershner, executive pastry chef of Town, and Joseph and Michael Gabriel, chef/owners of Gabriels Dessert Boutique, both in New York City.

The recipes will be judged their use of ingredients native to New England as well as originality and ease of preparation. The deadline for entries will be January 2, 2004.

New England Culinary Institute was founded in 1980 with a unique educational model dedicated to learn-by-doing immersion training in real life situations. The Institute, which has grown to three campuses - two in Vermont and one at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College in Tortola, BVI  is recognized internationally for training of highly qualified chefs, managers, culinary professionals, and industry leaders.
