Al Tiramisu Restaurant Hosts Italian Dessert Class
Chef Luigi Diotaiuti and Award-Winning Food Expert, Amy Riolo Host Italian Dessert Class at Al Tiramisu Restaurant
Two culinary experts share their secrets to making fabulous, can't-miss desserts that will rival any restaurant.
If you've ever wondered how to make your favorite Italian desserts from scratch, this is your moment. On Saturday, June 15, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., Chef Luigi Diotaiuti and Amy Riolo, will demonstrate how to prepare classic Italian desserts; tiramisu, cannoli and panna cotta from scratch. The class will be held at Al Tiramisu restaurant, 2014 P Street NW, in Dupont Circle. The cost is $45.00 per person and seating is limited.
With a few expert tricks from these experienced food magicians, these seemingly difficult recipes will become demystified and deliciously easy. Amy Riolo has taught traditional Italian baking to both home cooks and pastry chefs around the world, and authored award-winning cookbooks. Luigi Diotaiuti is the chef/owner and sommelier of the appropriately named Al Tiramisu. Together, they will create a comfortable and fun atmosphere where cooking aficionados will gain the confidence needed to create fantastic Italian sweets.
As they prepare these three desserts from scratch, Amy and Chef Luigi will highlight the historical and cultural relevance of each dessert, while providing participants with all the tips needed for success. After the recipes are demonstrated, the desserts will be served.

Amy Riolo is an internationally recognized food expert known for fusing the worlds of cuisine, culture and history in her work. An award-winning author, lecturer, food historian, culinary consultant and cooking instructor, Amy has received the World Gourmand Award and a Nautilus Book Award for her cookbooks. Her food writing has appeared in USA Today, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and Cooking Light Magazine, and she has lectured throughout the region, including at The Smithsonian, The Library of Congress and The Kennedy Center. A graduate of Cornell University, Amy is currently working on several new restaurant concepts, two new books and a television show pilot.
Chef Luigi Diotaiuti is a world-renowned authority on Italian cooking and a certified sommelier. Born on a farm in the mountains of Southern Italy, he graduated from the Culinary School in Maratea and trained in renowned restaurants in Paris, Venice, Tuscany and Sardinia before settling in Washington, DC. He opened Al Tiramisu restaurant in 1996, and was awarded the coveted "Insegna del Ristorante Italiano," the seal of approval by the President of Italy.
A celebrity favorite, who has cooked for Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti, Hillary Clinton and George Clooney, Chef Luigi is a member of the American Chefs Corps network through the U.S. Department of State, The James Beard Foundation and Slow Food DC, among other organizations. Recently chosen to participate on ABC's "The Taste," Chef Luigi is in the process of publishing his first cookbook.
