The American Restaurant Welcomes New Executive Chef
The American Restaurant announced today the selection of Celina Tio, as its new Executive Chef. Tio comes to Kansas City from the prestigious Narcoossee's at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa in Orlando, Florida. Tio will take the helm at The American Restaurant on August 20, 2001.
"We're delighted to welcome Celina to Kansas City to continue the rich tradition of culinary excellence that our loyal patrons have come to expect at The American Restaurant," said Executive General Manager Solomon Melessee. "The American Restaurant owes its long-standing success to its ability to evolve and change, and we're thrilled that Celina has joined us to continue that tradition."
Tio's background includes a long history with Disney. Her culinary talents caught the attention of Disney Magazine, which named her one of six Disney Divas. She's also been featured on several television shows including Good Day Philadelphia (FOX), and Ask the Dietitian (America's Health Network) and holds a sommelier certificate from the Court of Master Sommeliers, London, England.
As a child, Tio spent her after-school hours watching Julia Child reruns. After honing her skills at the Ritz-Carlton in Philadelphia, she made her way to Disney's Spoodles, and then worked her way up to become Executive Chef of Disney's premiere Orlando restaurant, Narcoossee's.
"I have varied culinary experience with American, Mediterranean and French foods and I have become creative in all realms," said Celina Tio. "Coming to The American Restaurant in Kansas City will allow me to create dishes with a local flavor."
