Andrew Will Wine Dinner With Winemaker Chris Camarda At Tocqueville
Winemaker Chris Camarda of Andrew Will Winery will be the guest at Tocquevilles continuing Winemaker & Chef dinner series on Sunday, May 4. Each dinner features a boutique winemaker who personally crafts his wines, much as Chef Marco Moreira and Jo-Ann Makovitzkys oversee every detail of their acclaimed restaurant. For the Andrew Will dinner, Chef Marco Moreira will create a seven-course menu to be matched with eight wines.
Andrew Will is a small winery in the Seattle area producing limited quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Bordeaux blends since beginning operation in 1989. Robert Parker rated the winery outstanding and called it one of America's finest producers of Merlot. He also noted, Andrew Will's wines have virtually perfect tannins. They are present but buffered by the loads of dominating sweet fruit. Furthermore, what is amazing about Chris Camarda's wines is that they are concentrated yet grateful. Camarda's [wines] blend power with elegance, concentration with finesse, and supersweet fruit with definition. Chris Camarda is a brilliant winemaker. Owners Chris and Annie Camarda named the winery after their son Will and their nephew Andrew. The wines that will be served are:
2000 Ciel de Cheval Merlot Magnum
1999 Clipson Merlot
1998 Ciel de Cheval Cabernet Sauvignon
1999 Seven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon
2000 Champoux Vineyard
1998 Sorella
1999 Sorella
2000 Sorella
The seven-course dinner will include dishes such as skate with oxtail; short ribs and hanger steak; ravioli with lobster, sweetbreads and porcini; and lamb with fingerling potato napoleon.
Dinner starts at 6:30pm with passed horse doeuvres, giving guests an opportunity to meet the winemaker. The cost is $225 per person, with tax and gratuity additional. Tocqueville is located at 15 East 15th Street. Reservations are required and can be made at 212-647-1515.
