Animal And Planet Appreciation Month This April At Little River Inn
Little River Inn celebrates Earth Day with Audubon-friendly Bat Education Day
and the new "River Dog Package" for overnight guests and their pooches
Little River, Calif.-March 26, 2013-Little River Inn, the family-owned and operated boutique resort on the Mendocino coast, is showing love for the planet and its creatures, both great and small, by hosting a community Bat Education Day in honor of Earth Day on April 20 and offering a new, dog-focused "River Dog Package" throughout the month.
Little River Inn is commemorating United Nations' 43rd annual Earth Day with its second annual Bat Education Day, a hands-on, family-oriented program to encourage awareness and appreciation of bats and teach eco-pest control, on Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
One insectivorous bat can eat up to 1,000 insects per hour, making them the perfect natural alternative to using insecticides on Little River Inn's nine-hole golf course, which features bat houses throughout. Members of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program since 1999, Little River Inn's golf course was certified by Audubon International in 2005 thanks to its hospitality toward native bats such as the Mexican free-tailed bat. Through Littler River Inn's adherence to the program, it has successfully reduced water use by 50%, controls silt and contaminants from entering the course, and has reduced pesticide use by 75%. The Inn also hosts local high school student tours and sponsors youth projects to erect barn owl boxes at area schools.
On Bat Appreciation Day, visitors can look forward to the opportunity to construct several pre-cut bat houses for installation on the Little River Inn golf course, a lecture and slideshow by Corky Quirk from NorCal Bats followed by a live show-and-tell with real bats, and a raffle drawing where one lucky guest will take home a four-chambered bat house to start a colony in their own yard. Admission is complimentary for registered visitors with a limit of 30 attendees.
Little River Inn is always a pet-friendly property but in April it is rolling out the red carpet for dog-lovers and their four legged companions with the "River Dog Package." This package includes the following special amenities especially for four-legged guests:
Two nights in a pet friendly room
A three hour dog-friendly canoe excursion with Catch a Canoe
