FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Live Auction Lot by
LMR and Chef Michael Chiarello
Helps Break Record!
June 6, 2005, Rutherford, CA - Napa Valley Vintners and Long Meadow Ranch proudly announced today that Mr. Hisang Lee, Chairman of Korea's Nara Foods purchased the live lot donated by Long Meadow Ranch and Emmy Award-Winning Chef Michael Chiarello at Saturday's record-breaking Auction Napa Valley.
The auction, sponsored by the Napa Valley Vintners, raised a precedent smashing $10.5 million for Napa Valley social services, helped by Mr. Lee, who purchased the Long Meadow Ranch live lot for $40,000. Special guest and Tonight Show host Jay Leno launched the bidding on 59 spectacular vintner-donated lots under a colorful, festive tent during Saturday night's Live Auction.
In celebration of its 10th anniversary, Long Meadow Ranch Winery joined with celebrity chef and author Michael Chiarello in creating an extraordinary lot that featured the LMR commitment to producing outstanding wine and food. The lot's centerpiece was a complete one-of-a-kind vertical (1994-2003) of LMR Cabernet Sauvignon in commemorative 6-liter bottles. In addition, the winning bidder and nine guests will be the stars in an upcoming television show hosted by Chef Chiarello featuring a meal at Long Meadow Ranch.
Using the extraordinary valley views from
the LMR Chef's Cabin as a backdrop,
Michael Chiarello will prepare a multi-course meal using heirloom fruits and vegetables from LMR's own organic gardens, LMR Grass-fed Highland Beef, and LMR extra virgin olive oils, Prato Lungo and Napa Valley Select. Of course, the dinner will feature wines drawn from the 10-year library of Cabernet Sauvignon, beginning with the inaugural 1994 vintage.
Mr. Lee with his guests will star in the resulting television show to be seen worldwide on Fine Living Network (FLN) in 2006.
An additional element of this extraordinary event will be an old-fashioned spice- and ingredient-hunting trip down the Napa River to San Francisco's Ferry Plaza aboard Ted and Laddie Hall's 58-foot classic wood yacht, Bright Star. The guests will return with their treasures from this televised adventure to enjoy the anniversary celebration dinner at the LMR Chef's Cabin superbly prepared by Chiarello using the trip's exotic discoveries.
Michael Chiarello recently received a Daytime Emmy Award for his role as host for the Food Network hit, Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello. Chiarello won in a celebrity-studded category that included Martha Stewart and Emeril Lagasse. "I am pleased to be working again with co-owners Ted & Laddie Hall at Long Meadow Ranch. Their wines and foods exemplify my own commitment to creating great experiences to be shared with family and friends," said Chiarello.
"We are honored to have Michael prepare a meal from our own produce and to have such a glorious opportunity to share our wines with Mr. Lee and his family. Even better, the many worldwide viewers of Michael's show will have a chance to learn more about our commitment to producing outstanding wines and extraordinary food and how to create great family-oriented meals for themselves," said Laddie Hall. "We are truly honored to have Michael working with us on this project. And, the sailing adventure only adds to the single most important ingredient: Fun," said boat skipper (and ranch co-owner) Ted Hall. "At the same time, we are also very pleased that we could help contribute to the charities supported by Auction Napa Valley, " he added.
The Halls and Chiarello have previously collaborated on a hour-long television special shown of FLN called, Napa Mavericks, and Ted and Michael did a sequence at last year's barrel auction for the PBS network.
