Baker & Banker Bakery Set To Open August 1st Around The Corner From The Restaurant At 1802 Bush Street

Great news for those who dream about the desserts and breads at Baker & Banker - On August 1st, Jeff Banker and Lori Baker, the husband and wife duo behind the acclaimed restaurant, will open their hotly anticipated Baker & Banker Bakery. The Bakery is on Bush Street just around the corner from the restaurant's Octavia Street entrance. Since opening in December 2009, Baker & Banker has received a three star review from The San Francisco Chronicle's Michael Bauer and inclusion in his annual Bay Area Top 100 list. He noted that dessert at Baker & Banker "...is a course that shouldn't be skipped," and that it is "...worth a trip alone."

The bakery will be open Tuesday through Sunday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and offer one or two daily sandwiches and Four Barrel drip coffee and espresso drinks in addition to baked goods. Whole layer cakes may be ordered by 4:00 PM one day prior to pickup. These include Baker's justly famous XXX Chocolate Cake, an original creation cited by SF Weekly's Best of 2010 and its 10 Best Sweets and described by Tablehopper as, "... a barely legal layering of flourless chocolate cake, chocolate cheesecake, and devil's food cake."

-Pastry Chef-

In the short eight months since the restaurant's opening, Pastry Chef Lori Baker's playful flavors and skillfully crafted desserts have brought her into the public eye, though she has been behind the scenes crafting sweets for years. She originated the bacon brittle at Humphry Slocombe and was pastry chef at EOS, Home, Slow Club, Gordon's House of Fine Eats and Bizou. She tends toward American classics and often adds a twist with her inventive flavor combinations and literal translations of the tried-and-true, such as Fluffernutter and Malted Milk Ball Cupcakes and Peanut Butter and Jelly Bars.

-Menu-

Morning offerings will include scones, muffins, breakfast breads, and sticky buns. Bakery items will rotate daily and include layer cakes such as the Snickerdoodle Cake and the aforementioned XXX Chocolate Layer Cake. Baker will also serve a variety of cookies, including her Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies, which will be baked fresh in house and also sold as dough to take home. Two to three types of cupcakes will be featured daily in rotating flavors such as Chocolate Salted Caramel, Triple Vanilla and Strawberry Shortcake. Brownies, Blondies, and Lemon Bars will be offered, as will seasonal crostadas and individual panna cottas and puddings. Baker's sweet and savory housemade breads including Challah, Rosemary Focaccia, and Cinnamon Cherry Swirl, will now be available to go.
