THE BANCROFT NOW OPEN! James Beard Nominated Mario Capone Helms the Kitchen at New Steakhouse and Cocktail Lounge

The Webber Restaurant Group announces the opening of The Bancroft, a modern American steakhouse and craft cocktail lounge located in the newly developed 3rd Ave. in Burlington. The kitchen is helmed by James Beard nominated Chef Mario Capone, a protégé of nationally treasured chef Lydia Shire.

The Bancroft marries farm-to-table sensibilities with cutting-edge, contemporary cuisine to create a dining experience that goes beyond the traditional white tablecloth American steakhouse. In addition to the finest cuts of Prime and Dry Aged beef prepared to order, guests can feast on inventive fare like Charcoaled Salmon with creamed potatoes, snap peas and pressed beat vinaigrette, Colorado lamb chops with roasted eggplant and mint raita and charcoaled salmon with creamed potatoes, snap peas and beet vinaigrette.

Whenever possible, the produce comes directly from The Webber Group’s own Gibbet Hill Farm in Groton, Massachusetts.

Cocktail aficionados will appreciate The Bancroft’s precision approach to mixing drinks. Beverage Director Dave Werthman’s extensive list of nostalgic classes (like an Old Pal or Bijou) and newfangled libations (the Queen Crimson mixes house rhubarb soda, Tito’s vodka, zucca, lime, Grenadine and orange flower water), along with fizzes, flips and smashes. The vast cocktail selection is showcased at a centralized 32-seat bar, with four independent bartending stations, which allow bartenders to get up close and personal with the guests.

Neighbors will find The Bancroft to be a perfect meeting place for all occasions—from a leisurely lunch, to a special evening on the town, or night out with friends. Additionally, The Bancroft offers multiple private dining areas—large and small—for corporate clients and social occasions.

ABOUT THE EXECUTIVE CHEF

James Beard nominee Mario Capone is a familiar name to Boston area diners. Mario partnered with acclaimed chef Lydia Shire to open Scampo at the Liberty Hotel and Towne Stove and Spirits, which were both named “Best New Restaurant” by Esquire Magazine in 2008 and 2011. Mario was Executive Chef when Shire reopened iconic Locke-Ober restaurant in 2006. That year, Gourmet magazine named Locke-Ober one of the “50 Best Restaurants” in the USA.

ABOUT THE GENERAL MANAGER

Born and raised in Watertown, Massachusetts, Richard Brackett and his family have long been employed in Boston’s hospitality industry; the Bracketts date back six generations of inn keepers and farmers. Richard began at the Le Marquis at the Lafayette Hotel and has since overseen several Boston-based dining rooms and restaurants including Towne Stove and Spirits and Scampo at the Liberty Hotel. He believes that service should be attentive, anticipatory, and non-intrusive, and that people who take pride in their work ultimately can transform a meal into an extraordinary dining experience.

ABOUT THE LOOK & DESIGN

Webber Restaurant Group and award-winning Niemitz Design Group have designed The Bancroft to be both classic and contemporary. Dark natural wood furnishings, high ceiling, tall windows and white marble reflect the more familiar atmosphere of familiar steakhouses. But an industrial steel catwalk and mezzanine housing a 3000-bottle wine collection centered in the 200 seat main dining room couldn’t be more modern. From funky mathematical and chemical art and mid-century modern prints to vintage Parisian flea market finds, the design and art elements of The Bancroft mix and match, to create a unique one-of-a-kind aesthetic.

ABOUT WEBBER RESTAURANT GROUP

Webber Restaurant Group began in 2000 when the Webber family purchased 500-acre Gibbet Hill Farm in their hometown of Groton, Massachusetts to save it from development. They restored the farm’s turn-of-the-century barns, updated the cattle and vegetable farming operations and opened Gibbet Hill Grill and The Barn at Gibbet Hill.

With the success of Gibbet Hill Grill and The Barn at Gibbet Hill, the family has expanded their hospitality brand, opening Scarlet Oak Tavern, and Fireside Catering, which caters exclusively to the Estate at Moraine Farm in Beverly, MA, Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, MA, and LaBelle Winery in Amherst, NH. Webber Restaurant Group businesses have achieved recognition with five-in-a-row “Best of Boston” awards from Boston Magazine, Best of the Knot, and Best of Wedding Wire.
