Baum Forum Presents a Growing Concern - October 5th And October 6th

A Growing Concern is a multi-faceted culinary and educational weekend exploring food and farming issues. This two-day event will be filled with conference sessions, exhibits, workshops, networking, cooking demonstrations and more, tempered with a good amount of delicious food and wine from regional family farmers. The goal of this weekend is to motivate, inspire and educate the public and food professionals about our food production and provide practical strategies for consciously choosing what to eat, where it comes from and who produces it. Produced by the Baum Forum and hosted by The French Culinary Institute with Slow Food NYC as program partner.

Saturday, October 5th
8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Conference Sessions at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center.
Harvest of Hope: Envisioning a Healthy, Diversified Food System - exploration of compelling food and farming issues within the context of culture, environment, and politics.

2:00 to 4:30 p.m. Metropolitan Marketplace at Bridgewaters, South Street Seaport.
Slow Food NYC coordinates tastings and promotional exhibits of local, sustainable, artisanal and family farm products available to the metro-NY market.

2:30 to 6:00 p.m. Workshops at Pace University in Lower Manhattan.
Concurrent workshops led by farmers, marketers, educators and organizers focus on creating positive change through practical strategies and innovative projects for home chefs, restaurants, and schools.

6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Reception at City Bakery sponsored by Slow Food USA.

Sunday, October 6th
9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Culinary Education at The French Culinary Institute in SoHo.
Chefs, farmers, purveyors and other culinary experts team up to provide interactive demonstrations and comparative tastings for home chefs and professionals in the professional teaching kitchens of The French Culinary Institute.

1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Long, Slow Harvest Luncheon at a New York City historic waterfront landmark with Alice Waters and other special guests.
A leisurely, communal feast inspired by Alice Waters celebrating the local harvest. Between courses, speakers and performances focus on todays family farmers and citizen campaigns both here and abroad.
