Black Market In East Village Debuts "sexy Brunch"

Black Market, the East Village gastropub known for its house oysters, outstanding cocktails and one of New York's best burgers, today announced the debut of Sexy Brunch, featuring DJ Har Mar Superstar and friends. On Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4pm, DJ Har Mar (aka Sean Tillmann) and a rotating cast of surprise guests will take residence at Black Market, spinning eclectic sets of R&B, freestyle dance grooves, soul, 80's, 90's and everything in between - a perfect accompaniment to Black Market's new brunch offerings and killer brunch cocktails.

The restaurant, which opened two years ago, is the newest venture from Johnny T and Jesse Malin, owners of edgy East Village rock bars Niagara, Bowery Electric, Cabin Down Below and Lovers of Today.

In addition to the much loved burger and house oysters, highlights of the brunch menu include BLK MKT Deviled Eggs with Pimenton de la Vera and caviar; Poached Eggs with Sweet Potato Hash; French Toast with thick cut brioche, blueberry compote and spiced maple syrup; and more.

Black Market's cocktail program was developed by Hotel Delmano's Sam Anderson. The seasonal brunch cocktails feature housemade syrups and bitters, including Black and Blue with Guinness, fresh black current and blueberry juice; Hound Dog with St. Germain, vodka, fresh grapefruit, lime and a torched grapefruit wedge; Dreams Never End with Mitchers rye whiskey, antica formula, pear syrup with brown sugar, and fernet branca; and more. The restaurant also offers an all-organic/biodynamic wine list, international and craft beers, fresh-pressed juices and coffee from Irving Farms.

Black Market serves a daily selection of fresh oysters, including its house oysters from Greenport Oyster Company, a small farm located on Peconic Bay just off Widow's Hole at the end of the North Fork. The farm is owned by one of Black Market's partners, Laura F. McCarthy, whose Greenport oysters are exclusive to the restaurant. For those looking to indulge, The Last Waltz offers two dozen oysters and a bottle of Veuve Clicquot ($145).

Inside Black Market, the cool, goth interior features crystal chandeliers, an eclectic assortment of light fixtures sourced from antique shops, and slate walls adorned with paintings and photographs by artists who are also personal friends of the owners (including Marc Hundley, Ted Riederer, Richard Hambleton, Ryan McGinley, Jack Walls and more). The front of the restaurant serves as an intimate lounge with marble-topped pedestal tables and leather banquettes, while the dimly lit back dining room features larger, 1950's era tables with black Formica tops and dark purple walls.

The brunch menu was created by Chef Connor Pelcher, former line cook at ABC Kitchen and Jean-Georges, and a graduate of the New England Culinary Institute. Connor joined Black Market in May 2012.

DJ Sean Tillmann is a singer, songwriter and producer best known for his R&B alter ego Har Mar Superstar. Tillmann's other projects include Sean Na Na and Neon Neon, whose album Stainless Style was nominated for the 2008 Mercury Music Prize. He also plays in Gayngs, a soft rock super group with members of Bon Iver, Megafaun, Solid Gold, and The Rosebuds and has acted in the feature films Whip It, Lovely Still, Starsky & Hutch and the forthcoming Pitch Perfect.

Hours: Black Market is open daily from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.; brunch on Sat. and Sun. from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Black Market accepts reservations for parties of 6 or more.
