Ode To Summer Tomatoes Dinner

in the new Private Dining Suites at Grill 23
July 2008, Boston, MA...For 10 years, Executive Chef Jay Murray has served local farmer Pio Angelini's tomatoes almost exclusively. They are round, red, unassuming except when extremely large, and beyond that, defy all logic as to why they are the finest tomatoes Jay has ever tasted. It must be the terroir. "I inherited a sort of Caprese Salad when I began at Grill 23, that was a yearlong staple on the menu. But following my first tomato season with Mr. Angelini, I knew it was finished. Never again would we serve any other tomato" states Murray.
To celebrate these luscious tomatoes, Chef Jay Murray will present a 4-course "ODE TO SUMMER TOMATOES DINNER" with wines paired by Wine Director Alex DeWinter. The special dinner is to be held on August 12 at 6:00 pm in the Fairfield Suite on the second floor; a part of the new Private Dining addition just opened in May 2008 overlooking the also all-new exhibition kitchen. The ODE TO SUMMER TOMATOES DINNER is $65. per person. Reservations: 617.542.2255.
Jason Babb, Grill 23's General Manager, confirms the popularity of Mr. Angelini's Amazing Tomatoes. "For the past several years we've all been answering the question 'when does the tomato salad return?' by our regulars." The Marinated Tomatoes with African Budding Basil and Rawson Brook Chvre Croquette ($14) has become a favorite among those in the know, with guests returning for several visits in its too short lived stay on the menu during August and early September. Rest assured, it will return on August 12 as well.
