Casa Azul Cantina By Frida Restaurant Group Opens In Westwood, Inspired By The History, Culinary Flavors And Spirit Of Mexico

WHAT: Opening Tuesday, January 3, 2012, Casa Azul Cantina by FRIDA Restaurant Group, brings a taste of Mexico to West L.A. from restaurateur and chef Vicente Del Rio. While recognized for developing concepts that stay true to Mexican culinary traditions, Del Rio ardently pays homage to the full spectrum of Mexican cuisine and cocktails.

Overseen by Del Rio's culinary team including Executive Chefs Orlando Candanoza and Oswaldo Robles, diners can enjoy simple classics like Botanas (traditional Mexican snacks) including Gambas al Ajillo ($12.95); Queso Fundido with Mushrooms or Chorizo ($11.45). Additionally, winter Sopas include the signature Pozole Diego ($8.95) or Sopa Azteca served with Chicharrn and Chile Pasilla ($5.95). Main dishes, or Especialidades de la Casa, feature seafood fare inspired by recipes from the coastal regions of Mexico including Aguachile de Camarn with Fresh Shrimp Marinated in a Spicy Lime Serrano Sauce with Onions, Avocado, Cilantro, and Cucumbers Drizzled with Extra Virgin Olive Oil ($12.95); or Camarones Al Gusto with a Zarandeado Sauce ($20.95). Traditional dishes include Tacos de Rib Eye with Handmade Corn Tortillas and Grilled Marinated Rib Eye, Topped with Onions, Cilantro, and Chiles Toreados ($15.95); as well as a savory Chicken Mole Poblano ($17.95).

Casa Azul's cocktail list utilizes fresh, traditional, and authentic ingredients featuring classic and playful Mexican libations. These include a number of freshly made Margaritas ($9 - $12); Paloma Azul featuring Cuervo Tradicional, Grapefruit Soda and Squirt with a Salted Rim ($8); to more exotic concoctions such as the Matador Special with Fresh Muddled Cucumber, Agave, Tequila, Triple Sec, Tajin and Lime Juice and Cucumber Garnish dipped in a Tajin spice ($10). The list of nearly 70 tequilas including Blanco, Reposado, and Aejo, can be made into a Margarita for $2. Traditional Mexican beer cocktails, including Micheladas, appear on the menu ($6-8), as well as wines by the glass or bottle.
