Casa Del Mar Now Serves Barrel-aged Cocktails
Casa del Mar has begun the unique process of aging its own cocktails in American white oak barrels. Lasting two to three weeks, the technique increases richness and depth of flavor, adding hints of smokiness, caramel and spice to the cocktail.
The debut barrel-aged drinks include the Negroni- a Gin, Sweet Vermouth and Campari mixture; and the Brooklyn- created with Corn Whiskey, Maraschino, Orange Bitters and Sweet Vermouth. These cocktails will kick off the new barrel-aged menu, but guests can look forward to more pre-prohibition inspired beverages in the coming weeks.
The Negroni cocktail was named in the 1900s for Florentine aristocrat, Count Camillo Negroni. Desiring more bite from his usual Americano, he asked the bartender to add some Gin to the drink, and a bar classic was instantly conceived.
"It's a sophisticated drink that is appealing to the novice cocktail drinker as well because the barrel aging process mellows out some of the harshness and strength of the spirits in the cocktail," says John Weir, one of the mixologists at Casa del Mar.
Guests are invited to experience Casa del Mar's premier barrel-aged cocktails in the Veranda and Lobby Lounge where they can also enjoy a variety of live music every Tuesday through Saturday.
