Celebrate National Salad Month In May With Fogo De Chco
Washington, D.C. - As springtime approaches, the call of fresh produce can beckon to even the most diehard meat-eater. With May designated as National Salad Month, Fogo de Chco's unparalleled salad bar awaits. The Southern Brazilian steakhouse is known for its 15 delectable cuts of meat served tableside by authentic Gazcho chefs, but it's often the stunning salad bar in the center of the restaurant that first catches a guest's eye. Patrons can enjoy the salad bar-only option at Fogo de Chco during lunch or dinner for just $19.50 per person.
The salads, vegetables, breads, cold cuts and cheeses are in abundance at Fogo de Chco - green bean and carrot salad, hearts of palm, marinated mushrooms, roasted yellow and red peppers, jumbo asparagus, Italian greens with mozzarella cheese, broccoli, sundried tomatoes, prosciutto, salami, smoked salmon, baby Swiss cheese, Gouda cheese and whole mozzarella.
There are many salad fun facts to celebrate in May:
- In the U.S., lettuce ranks second only to potatoes as the most popular vegetable.
- Average U.S. consumption in the 1990s was 30 pounds of lettuce per person per year.
- Romaine lettuce was named by the Romans, who believed it had healthful properties. In fact, the Emperor Caesar Augustus put up a statue praising lettuce because he believed it cured him from an illness.
- King Louis XIV of France had special greenhouses built so he could enjoy asparagus year-round, which is the reason it has been called the "Food of Kings."
- One of the most nutritious of all vegetables, broccoli has cancer-fighting, antiulcer and antiviral properties, as well as helping to regulate blood sugar and insulin.
- According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Americans eat more than 22 pounds of tomatoes every year.
Since its first U.S. opening in 1997, Fogo de Chco, a genuine steakhouse from Rio Grande de Sul in Southern Brazil, has been awing patrons with the history and tradition of a bona fide "churrascaria," known in Brazil as a restaurant where meat is the specialty. U.S. locations include Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, Beverly Hills and Washington, DC. Fogo de Chco also has four restaurants in Brazil- one located in Porto Alegre and three in Sao Paulo.
