Charlie Palmer, chef and owner behind some of the countrys most celebrated restaurants, including New Yorks Aureole and Metrazur , plans to open Kitchen 22 in September. The restaurant replaces the recently closed Alva at 34 East 22nd Street, located in the heart of the Flatiron district.

Charlie envisions the restaurant to have the same friendly vibe that made Alva a perennial favorite. Kitchen 22 is my vision of the ideal neighborhood restauranta comfortable space and incredible food at a great value. He promises an accessible menu. A unique feature of the restaurant will be the three-course prix-fixe menu offered at $25.00. Kitchen 22, open Monday through Saturday for dinner only, will offer a choice of five appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Expect Charlie Palmers signature cuisinebold flavors, seasonal foods, and great presentations. Desserts will be more informal and will be on display in the dining room, somewhat reminiscent of a French bistro or an early American diner.

Martin Vahtra, formerly of Adam Tihany Designs, is designing the restaurant. His inspiration for Kitchen 22 comes from the casual, simple comfort of a lakeside Scandinavian sauna and summer cottage. Vahtra hopes to capture that atmosphere in the bar area and contrast that with a dining room that has a light modern feel, another universal Scandinavian feature. Martin has collaborated with Charlie on other projects as well, most recently s LAs Astra West and The Lounge @ astra, Charlies newest property.
