Chef Alexander Zeppos Raises The Bar With A New Menu At Year-old Growlers

It has been almost a year since 227 East Diamond Avenue re-opened its doors and chef-partner, Alexander Zeppos, says it is time for the menu to be "kicked up a notch". Already well-known for producing some of the region's best beers, Zeppos is dedicated to also making Growlers a dining destination.

When asked why he is now stepping back into the kitchen, Zeppos explains that he needed the initial several months to re-establish the Gaithersburg landmark and concentrate on the business aspect of the microbrewery. "Our original menu was good, but I have now surrounded myself with some great professionals who finally allow me to focus on my primary love: cooking and creating great dishes."

Chef Zeppos definitely has the ability to bring a higher quality menu to this DC suburb. As well as attending the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), he has spent extensive time working in many of the areas' best-known kitchens, including Occidental Grill, Ardeo, Jaleo and most recently, Zaytinya.

Demonstrating his unique approach to 'American with a Twist' cuisine, diners can enjoy appealing starters such as Drunken Shrimp - butterflied shrimp sauted with a mignonette of mirepoix, deglazed with house ale, lemon juice, white wine and fresh herbs, or the Crab Stuffed Pretzel - two pretzel baguettes stuffed with a creamy blend of crab and spinach plus cheddar, monterey jack & provolone cheeses. Signature entrees will include Poseidon's Tuna Steak - grilled tuna loin tossed with thinly sliced red onions, mint & toasted almonds, served with parisian potatoes and haricot vert, finished with extra virgin olive oil and lemon zest. For those who want the V.I.P. dining experience, Zeppos has a special four-course Chef's menu paired with seasonal brews, which is offered daily and changes every week. The popular Sunday Jazz Brunch has treats such as the Growlers' Poached Eggs with grilled ham steak, toasted ciabatta, sauted spinach and hollandaise sauce.

In addition to bringing the restaurant menu to the next level, Zeppos has created some appealing group dining options to be used in the Pub Room on the 2nd Floor, where he can host private events accommodating up to 150 people.

Located at 227 East Diamond Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD, Growlers is open continuously through lunch and dinner, Monday through Friday, encouraging diners to stop in and enjoy the great new items at any time. A late night menu is also offered in the upstairs bar and outdoor deck - perfect for a snack as you listen to live entertainment or watch your favorite sports on the numerous flat-screen televisions.
