Chef Jacques Haeringer And To Host The Susan G. Komen Foundation Dinner Event
Chef Jacques Haeringer and his Washington DC award-winning restaurant, LAuberge Chez Francois, will host the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation for a Dinner Event honoring major donors and special friends of the Komen Foundation on Monday, October 20, 2003. Cocktails will begin at 6:00 p.m. with dinner served at 7:00 p.m. Susan Braun, president and CEO of the Komen Foundation, will be the keynote speaker.
The dinner event is the Komen Foundations way of thanking its major donors for their support of the Foundations efforts to both fund research to find a cure for breast cancer and to help those facing breast cancer today through education, screening and treatment programs. In addition to a menu designed especially for the event by Jacques Haeringer, the select group of guests will be treated to specially selected wines from Frances premier vintner, Domaine Louis Latour.
The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is a global leader in the fight against breast cancer through its support of breast cancer research and community outreach programs. According to the Komen Foundation, approximately 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Close to 40,000 of them will die from the disease. And for every woman diagnosed there is a family forever changed. Founded by Nancy Brinker in 1983 to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, the Foundation provides resources to not only those afflicted with breast cancer but also those who care for them. Jacques Haeringer knows this all too well. Several years ago Jacques wife Evelyn was diagnosed with breast cancer and after a few years lost her battle to the disease, leaving Jacques a widower with two young children to care for.
We are so pleased and honored to be able to assist the Komen Foundation with their fight against this terrible disease, something I know about first hand, says Haeringer. The Komen Foundation is about family, keeping the family together through education and communication. Family is very important in our Alsatian heritage. Families cook together, eat together and help one another through illness and adversity. I could not have gotten through my wifes illness without the loving support of my family.
It was this love of family that inspired Jacques Haeringer to take his message, Love Begins in the Kitchen to a national audience. He has created team cooking, a surprisingly simple guide to planning and preparing meals that create a sense of celebration, whether the meal is for two or 22. By following Haeringers clear and simple instructions, color coded by team, both new and experienced cooks can create a new tradition and celebration with their family while enjoying wonderful, stress-free dining experiences.
Jacques Haeringer has been featured on NBCs Today Show, Fox News, and CNN. He has appeared in Bon Appetit, Gourmet, Southern Living, Cosmopolitan, Better Homes and Gardens and InTouch magazines. LAuberge Chez Francois, founded by Francois Haeringer in post World War II America, is the favorite restaurant of celebrities, foreign dignitaries and power brokers in Washington DC. Nestled among the lush green hills of Northern Virginia, this charming French country inn provides a wonderful dining experience in a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere. Over the years, LAuberge Chez Francois has received numerous awards and accolades and is featured often in magazines such as Bon Appetit, Washingtonian, and Gourmet and regularly holds a top spot in Zagats Survey. Jacques and staff have been awarded AAAs Four Diamond Award for their outstanding service and quality for 10 years in a row and readers of Washingtonian recently voted LAuberge Chez Francois the number one restaurant in Washington DC, as well as Best Service, Best for Special Occasions, Best French Restaurant, Best Maitre d/Host and Most Romantic.
