Chef James Boyce Opens Commerce Kitchen
Commerce Kitchen,located in the heart of downtown Huntsville, Alabama, has opened at 300 Franklin Street. Commerce is Chef James Boyce's third restaurant in the area, providing diners with a family-friendly place to get home-spun cooking done right. Commerce Kitchen will take diners back to early Huntsville, where they can indulge in Southern regional cooking, enjoy a family-style supper or relax at the bar with a drink in hand. Boyce's wife Suzan, co-owner and director of the beverage program, has created a throwback bar area serving classic American drinks to complement the menu.
Housed in a former bank building from the 1800's on Commerce Row, the restaurant takes on the feel of a modern saloon-complete with high-back cushioned booths, hardwood floors, burlap wall hangings and custom mill work. Guests enter into the bar area, which features traditional tall stools and oversized tufted banquettes. Beyond the bar, just up a few steps, the familiar scent of comfort food wafting from the kitchen beckons guests into the dining room. The welcoming convivial atmosphere hosts an array of large tables perfect for group dining. The dining area seats 65 people, while the bar area seats 19, with 10 stools at the bar, and room for three couples in the banquette.
Commerce Kitchen features food refined from generations-old recipes passed down through families, communities and women's guild cookbooks. In addition to a fresh Raw Bar, the menu highlights familiar offerings with a twist such as Country Style Pork Ribs with Creamed Corn, Gulf Shrimp and Grits with Green Garlic and Parmesan, Carolina Fried Flounder with Coleslaw and Caper Butter, and Grilled Cornish Game Hen with Tarragon-Vinegar Sauce. Complementing the down-home menu, guests can order from an accessible wine list, sample local beers on tap or sidle up to the bar and order American classics such as a Rob Roy, Whiskey Sour or an Old Fashioned.
Commerce Kitchen is located at 300 Franklin Street in downtown Huntsville, Alabama. Lunch to begin next week, served Monday-Friday from 11:00AM-2:00PM.
