China Grill Chicago Presents Cutting-edge Three-dimensional Video Installation

China Grill (230 N. Michigan Ave.), the seductive restaurant with high-energy atmosphere and stylishly presented World Cuisine, introduces the China Grill Globe, a three-dimensional site-specific permanent video installation that is projected onto the soaring 44-foot wall above China Grill's bar.

The globe, eight-and-half-feet in diameter, features three dazzling montages of light, color and movement: a rotating 18th century map of the world, ephemeral underwater images of women swimming, and a "crystal ball" full of smoke and fire.

"Our cuisine is about culinary exploration, inspired in part by the historical figure Marco Polo and his travels," explains Founder Jeffrey Chodorow. "The globe symbolizes this exploration."

In each of the five China Grill properties, the globe is displayed in an assortment of artistic forms: in Miami and New York, hand painted globes hang from the ceiling above the guest entrance; in Las Vegas, images of the earth's elements - rain, wind and fire - are projected onto the domed ceiling of the main dining room; and in Mexico City, a hemispheric world chart adorns the entrance wall of China Grill at the legendary Camino Real Hotel.

China Grill Chicago's globe was designed by Klip Collective, a Philadelphia-based group of professionals in the field of video, film and photography. Ricardo Rivera, principal of Klip Collective and the creator of China Grill Chicago's globe, spent three months developing and designing the installation. Utilizing the "klip//effect," a patent-pending process, Rivera employed a single projector to map multiple video clips onto the custom-made fiberglass dome mounted on the bar's expansive wall, producing a seamless integration between the projected image and space.

A stylish after-work and late-night scene, China Grill's bar offers an upscale haven for business travelers, local professionals and residents. The bar is made of stylish black wood, which is echoed in the 18-foot communal table and side tables that face the floor-to-ceiling windows looking out onto Michigan Avenue. With a flat-screen television tucked in the corner; top-notch bar service; and an array of innovative cocktail offerings such as the Honey Martini; Orange Blossom Mojito; Tequilitinis and Saketinis, a fashionable crowd flocks to this sexy hotspot.

China Grill, with its trademark oversized portions, designed for sharing, combined with an inviting ambiance and superbly trained, friendly and knowledgeable staff offers Chicago an entertaining and sexy restaurant unlike any other. The low-lit dicor of the space embodies sophisticated black and gray elements with bold red and purple accent walls evocative of a lacquered box. Wood and glass dividers separate the more tranquil raised tiers along the sides from the central dining room, the epicenter of the China Grill experience.
