Commander's Palace Proprietors Launch Inthelandofcocktails.com
Inspired by the smashing success of their book, In the Land of Cocktails, published by HarperCollins last fall, cousins Ti Adelaide Martin and Lally Brennan, the vivacious proprietors of the world-class dining destination, Commander's Palace, have launched an informative, fun-filled and serious Web site, IntheLandofCocktails.com.
Ti and Lally's enthusiasm, charm and devilish joie de vivre shines through with rollicking interviews and blog entries, providing an insider's look into the dynamic culture of cocktails, wine and food from New Orleans. IntheLandofCocktails.com, constantly evolving like any good restaurant does, currently or will soon feature:
Entertaining and instructive webisodes with dozens of the restaurant industry's foremost cocktail experts from Dale "King Cocktail" DeGroff (making a Whiskey Peach Smash and brilliantly singing "Lulu's Back in Town"!) to Audrey Saunders; David Wondrich; Ted "Dr. Cocktail" Haigh; Robert Hess; Doug Frost; Jeff "Beachbum" Berry and many others. Longtime friends of Ti and Lally's, journalist Cokie Roberts and actor Bryan Batt of AMC's hit show "Mad Men," also each make an appearance, discussing the culture and cocktails of New Orleans, their hometown.
Webisodes with Brennan matriarchs, Ella Brennan and her sister, Dottie, regaling viewers with delightful stories of growing up in New Orleans in the '30s and '40s to managing Commander's Palace in the '60s and '70s, elevating the restaurant into one of the country's finest (first topic discussed: "Civilized Drinking")
Spirited cocktail-making sessions and lively blog entries (such as "How Lu Found Herself Behind Bars") from acclaimed Bar Chef Lu Brow of Caf Adelaide & the Swizzle Stick Bar
Engaging, insightful interviews with various New Orleans personalities, residents and business owners discussing the unique history and traditions of the Crescent City
A multitude of cocktail recipes, tips, books and barware available for purchase
IntheLandofCocktails.com will also soon offer cooking demos with suggested cocktail pairings from James Beard-nominated Executive Chef Tory McPhail of Commander's Palace, colorful entertaining tips from Ti and Lally for nearly every occasion and holiday, and much, much more.
Last fall, armed with their new book, Ti and Lally sounded out the call to "Join the cocktail revolution and demand a well-made cocktail!"
"We asked our readers to stop taking their cocktails for granted-put that bottle of sweet 'n' sour mix back on the shelf, tell your bartender that you'd prefer not to have a fruit salad added to your Old-Fashioned and demand fresh juices and mixers!" explains Lally Brennan.
"With IntheLandofCocktails.com, we hope we can continue the revolution," continues Ti Adelaide Martin, "by serving as a leading source for cocktail info, recipes, instruction on cocktail-making from our own gang as well as dozens of the foremost authorities on cocktails. Along the way we hope our mini webisodes are both entertaining and practical. But we can't help but come to you from our own perspective, which is a New Orleans perspective. And, as restaurateurs, we won't leave out food, cooking demos, the culture of New Orleans, music...and did we say food?"
