Cuisine Noir Magazine: Savoring Traditions With Dr. Maya Angelou
With the holidays just around the corner, Cuisine Noir took the time to create an issue about traditions and how to cherish the ones passed down as well as make a few that are new. The issue comes just a little over a month before the Top 10 Holiday Foods, Drinks and Foodie Grooves list is released to help readers create festive culinary experiences.
This month, publisher V. Sheree Williams spoke with Dr. Maya Angelou about her book, Hallelujah! The Welcome Table, and how she created memories about food from various events that have occurred in her life over time. Her new book, Great Food, All Day Long, is due out this December and details her journey of losing 35 pounds by eating great food in smaller portions.
Chef Kevin Sbraga, Bravo's Top Chef's first African-American winner, dished on his big win which he credits to hard work and having faith. With his winnings, he plans to begin working on opening his own restaurant. The Epcot International Food and Wine Festival kicked off on October 1 and will not only feature some of the best foods and wines from around the world, but also prominent African-American chefs like Jeff Henderson and Rock Harper.
The food scene in Seattle is exposed as contributor Jeanine Lewis highlighted some of her favorite spots that make the city a foodie destination. Award winning filmmaker Robert Lee Grant shares his inspiring story about finding a blessing as a result of Hurricane Katrina and filming his movie, Nourishing the Kids of Katrina, which showcases the installation of Alice Waters' Edible Schoolyard at Green Charter School in New Orleans. Readers are also introduced to Zihuatanejo, Mexico where the living is easy and full of fun times. It is also the location for the country's first Food and Wine Festival next year March.
