Culinary School Announces Chef In Bici Program Celebrity Chefs Tour Puglia By Bike

Southern Visions Travel in Puglia, Italy is announcing the continuation of their Chef In Bici program for the 2013 season. With Southern Visions, executive and celebrity chefs who are also cycling enthusiasts travel to Puglia to delve deep into the culinary culture on two wheels. Each chef bring with them a their own creative culinary talents and an adventuresome spirit that will lead a group of 12-16 on an unforgettable cycling and culinary vacation.

Each itinerary begins at the stunning Castello Traiano outside the city of Osutni. The group will base themselves here among the olive and orange groves (and magnificent pool) returning every evening to cook in their own kitchen. Different than many cycling programs that keep guests on the go, this one allows for participants to really settle in to their surroundings for a more intimate experience.

They cycling itinerary clocks an average of 35K a day and meanders down quiet back roads, into beautiful villages, to produce and fish markets and to the homes of local cheese, olive oil and wine makers. As the group cycles they will collect ingredients for their evening's meal. 2-3 cooking classes are scheduled during the week lead by the guest chef.

The program kicks off in September with a week with James Beard Award winning chef Jody Adams. Jody, no novice when it comes to Italy or a bicycle has not yet been to the region of Puglia. She brings with her 16 of her loyal regulars from her Cambridge, Mass. landmark restaurant Rialto and the newly opened Trade in Boston. A full itinerary can be found here.

Next spring when the weather is spectacular for cycling Southern Visions is lucky to be welcoming Chef Rick Moonan to the land of two seas. Chef Moonan, known for his passion and support of sustainable fisheries is looking forward to experiencing a cuisine with such a strong tradition from the sea.

In the fall Enzo Fargione, chef/owner of Elisir in Washington DC and Turin native will come down south for some fresh inspiration for is modern Italian menu.
