Daniel Patterson's Plum Bar With Mixologist Scott Beattie Opens This Friday In Oakland's Uptown District
Plum Bar, the new bar from the Daniel Patterson Group, is opening this Friday, next door to the critically acclaimed Plum restaurant. Located in Oakland's Uptown District, Plum Bar will feature cocktails from Mixologist Scott Beattie, wine on tap, local beers and bar bites from Chef Ron Boyd. Additionally, Plum Bar has created a unique opportunity for guests to become "Seatholders" by purchasing a piece of the action and receiving a lifetime of access and discounts.
"I live in Oakland, and I'm excited about what this bar will bring to the neighborhood - delicious, interesting cocktails and great food in a beautiful, unique space", says Daniel Patterson.
The 1,500 square-foot space is designed by Scott Kester, also the creative force behind the design of Coi, Plum and Haven (slated to open late 2011 in Jack London Square). Light and comfortable, Plum Bar incorporates wood floors, custom leather furniture, and walls covered with pages from the work of America's greatest poets. During the late afternoon, natural light pours through street-front windows and a large skylight overhead. At night, the room is warmed by the glow of a candle chandelier with mirrored sides. The 32-foot bar, seats 22, with additional seating in banquettes in the front windows, and four tables for two. There is a private lounge area, with space for 12, is tucked away behind an eight foot high greenhouse cabinet containing plants and herbs used in the bar's cocktails. The artwork is by renowned artist Catherine Wagner (who also did the artwork at Coi and Plum restaurant), from her series titled "A Narrative History of the Lightbulb".
Chef Ron Boyd, also behind the food program at neighboring Plum restaurant, delivers a menu fit for the comfortable bar, including charcuterie, shareable plates and sandwiches such as the Grilled Cheese and Double Burger. Other menu highlights include Beef Tendon Chicaronnes, Split Pea Soup and a Chicken Sausage Sandwich.
Plum Bar's drink program, overseen by Mixologist Scott Beattie, is a collection of both classically inspired and progressive, culinary-driven cocktails. The beverage program also includes local draft beers, wine on tap and a substantial selection of single malts. Cocktails include the Waverly Place Echo, Rose Aprium Sour and John Chapman.
"We seek to deliver deliciousness on every level and hope that Plum Bar makes a fine addition to Oakland, a place that embodies a bit of the old and a bit of the new," says Beattie.
Further defining the Plum Bar experience is the "Seatholders" concept, pioneered by Scott Kester for his upcoming bar in New York, the Elevens. For a contribution of $500, customers will receive 20% off all food and beverage purchases when dining with a party of up to four people, for the life of the business. Seatholders will share a sense of propriety, celebrate conviviality, foster a shared community ethos, and enjoy the benefits of their contribution.
Plum Bar and Plum Restaurant will be open seven days a week, from 5 p.m. to close. Ample street parking and nearby garage parking are available. Also convenient to the 19th Street BART Station. For more information on Plum and Plum Bar, please visit www.plumoakland.com.
