MISSION

The Museum of Food and Drink is a private, nonprofit, corporation dedicated to educating its visitors about the history, culture, production, commerce and science of food. The museum's goal is to become the country's best food educator -an establishment that encourages a well-rounded understanding of what we eat and why we eat it. This is a museum everyone can and should appreciate: Food is culture, and The Museum of Food and Drink shows why.
OUR GOALS

* To educate everyone-from picky and apathetic eaters to gastronomes and food lovers-about the importance of culinary history and anthropology. Visitors will not only see exhibits, they will taste them.
* To connect people to what they eat by explaining food production and distribution.
* To encourage a widespread appreciation and understanding of lost and endangered culinary arts: recipes, techniques and regional ingredients.

OVERVIEW

The Museum of Food and Drink will be unlike any museum in the country-and a natural draw for New York City's 36 million annual visitors. Our vision is nothing short of the Smithsonian of food, but as a young museum we will not try to be encyclopedic. We will focus on quality, not quantity: a few highly specific exhibits at a time that engage all five senses, at least one of which will be a blockbuster.

Every exhibit will be comprehensive and exciting. Visitors will see working chefs, videos, equipment, whole kitchens, scientific demonstrations and interpretive materials. Above all, when visitors come to the museum, they will eat.
