Dio Deka Hires Marty Cattaneo As Executive Chef

Dio Deka has ended its months-long search for a new executive chef. Today, General Manager Nikos Kalouris announced that Menlo Park native Marty Cattaneo will take the top toque at the Michelin-starred restaurant.

A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, Cattaneo brings with him the experience of working with some of the Bay-Area's top and most creative chefs. He was sous chef under James Beard award-winning chef David Kinch at Manresa from 2006 through early 2008 and then Chef de Cuisine under Jeremy Fox at Ubuntu in Napa, during which time New York Times restaurant critic Frank Bruni included the restaurant as one of the "10 most exciting restaurants in America." Cattaneo was most recently sous chef for Mourad Lahlou on "Iron Chef America" and continued to work with Chef Lahlou in the development of his Moroccan-inspired cookbook, which will be released in late 2011.

Cattaneo is thrilled to return to Los Gatos, and to work with the managing partners at Dio Deka. His food philosophy puts fresh seasonal and local ingredients center-stage, which stems from what's he's learned from his mentors, Kinch and Fox. "If you look at the climate of Los Gatos, it's very similar to that of Greece, which lends itself to the seasonal aspect of Greek cuisine," he says. "I'm looking forward to focusing Dio Deka's menu even more on local products, and letting those shine."

About Dio Deka

Founded by Greek restaurateurs Nikos Kalouris, Vagelis Papazisis, Yiani Dulles, Sakis Platis, and Petros Katopodis in 2006 with the backing of former Verisign CEO Stratton Sclavos, Dio Deka celebrates all aspects of fine Hellenic cuisine and culture. Dio Deka's warm ambience, healthy, seasonal Hellenic cuisine, and location in the charming town of Los Gatos make it a top restaurant destination for Silicon Valley executives, foodies, and families looking for an old-world dining experience imbued with excellent service and incredible food.

Dio Deka quickly rose to the spotlight after opening in November 2006 as the culmination of the lifelong dream of five Greek servers to open a restaurant together with a focus on fine Hellenic cuisine and hospitality. Dio Deka's menu, inspired by the pan-Mediterranean influence of ancient Greece and overseen by the restaurant's five Greek restaurateurs, secured the restaurant's status as fine dining destination in San Francisco's South Bay, drawing fans from San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and the adjacent Santa Cruz mountains. It's not uncommon to find the dining room hopping with activity, even on weeknights, as colleagues banter over a meal of lamb chops, pork shoulder and steak, couples dig in to a Mill-fay for dessert, and networking abounds at the bar.

Located at 210 E. Main Street in Los Gatos, Dio Deka is open daily for dinner Monday-Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A full menu is offered at the bar during dinner hours.

All credit cards are accepted; reservations are recommended. Complimentary valet parking is available for Dio Deka guests. Please visit www.diodeka.com or call 408.354.7700 for more information.
