Dolcezza Announces Three Collaboration Flavors With New Columbia Distillers, Gordy's Pickles Jar And Dc Brau Brewing Company
Robb Duncan, Washington's premier artisanal gelato maker and co-owner of Dolcezza is teaming up with DC area artisans to create three flavorful new gelatos and sorbets. This winter he will introduce Cucumber Tarragon Gin sorbetto featuring Green Hat Gin; Thai Basil Jalapeno sorbetto incorporating Gordy's Pickles, and Penn Quarter Porter gelato with DC Brau in the recipe. Priced at $5 for a small, $6.15 for a large and $10.50 for a pint, these collaboration flavors will be sold at all three Dolcezza locations beginning November 5. The Georgetown location also sells Dolcezza's seasonal flavors by the gallon and prices vary depending on the flavor.
The Cucumber Tarragon Gin sorbetto features Green Hat Gin from the New Columbia Distillers, DC's first craft distillery. Green Hat Gin is distilled in small batches from 100% grain and select botanicals. Handmade from beginning to end, the gin is crafted step-by-step over a two-week period, with a clear juniper nose, hints of light citrus and coriander spice, a vague recollection of earthiness and subtle notes of grains, pepper and celery, producing a rewarding complexity. Robb mixes the gin with Persian cucumbers sourced from Twin Springs Fruit Farm in Orrtanna, PA. He then adds tarragon, lime, salt, water and sugar, resulting in the finest frozen cocktail. Penn Quarter Porter Gelato is made from DC Brau's Penn Quarter Porter, a very robust beer with notes of chocolate, coffee, and a nutty flavor. Penn Quarter Porter straddles the line between a porter and a stout due to its chocolate flavor and dry, roasted finish. Robb first slowly heats up the porter to reduce and concentrate the flavor. He then adds the beer to the milk, cream and sugar base to spin into an exquisite and complex nutty, bitter porter gelato. For additional information on DC Brau, please visit http://www.dcbrau.com/.
The Thai Basil Jalapeno sorbetto incorporates the Thai Basil Jalapeno Pickles from Gordy's Pickle Jar. Gordy's Pickles are handcrafted, thoughtfully designed recipes using fresh, local produce and responsibly cultivated spices. This sorbetto is a tantalizing combination of sweet and spicy, using a basil-infused brine to compliment the heat of the jalapeno peppers. Don't miss out-it packs a lot of heat! When Robb Duncan met his wife and business partner in Dolcezza Violeta Edelman sailing down the Amazon, little did he know that two love stories were to unfold. As one romance bloomed in South America, another emerged from a sampling of Argentina's tradition of artisan gelato and a determination to bring it to the United States. After learning the delicate process of crafting gelati and sorbetti in Buenos Aires, the husband and wife team found a niche in DC's budding local food culture, building a business on the foundation of cultivating close relationships with local farmers to create delicious and distinctive gelatos and sorbets. The two have formed lasting bonds with the area's local farmers and artisans, incorporating locally grown and seasonal fruits and vegetables, milk, eggs, cheese and fresh herbs into their product.
Dolcezza's philosophy is simple: Be curious. Be spontaneous. Play with you food. Support local farmers and make exquisite gelato. Dolcezza makes gelato with a conscience, using only the best available ingredients grown by local farmer friends. By creating an artisanal product, Dolcezza has learned to measure time with the seasons and to work closely with local farmers.
Dolcezza has three locations: Dolcezza Georgetown, located at 1560 Wisconsin Avenue
