Durian To Take Center Stage At Inaugural Sands Fruit Festival: Two-day Fiesta Will Feature More Than 10 Varieties Of Tropical Fruit
Join Marina Bay Sands at its inaugural Sands Fruit Festival featuring some of the world's most popular tropical fruit. Held on 21 and 22 July at the Event Plaza, the Sands Fruit Festival will offer guests some of the region's most exotic fruit, with the city's stunning evening view as the backdrop.
From 7pm till 11pm during this two-day extravaganza, the spotlight will be on the durian, often lauded as one of the most popular tropical fruits in Singapore. Especially for this two day fiesta, Marina Bay Say Sands is bringing in rare and top of the line grades for durian lovers.
The star of the durian spread at Sands Fruit Festival will be the Mao Shan Wang durian variety. Hailed by many durian lovers as the creme de la creme of durians, it has a sweet and creamy texture and silky smooth flesh coupled with a subtle touch of bitterness that lingers on the palate.
In addition to the Mao Shan Wang durian, other durian varieties to savor will include XO, D24 and Golden Phoenix. D24 is similar to Mao Shan Wang in texture, with thick and creamy flesh, and is even more fragrant than Mao Shan Wang. Golden Phoenix durian flesh is bitter sweet and has considerably less fibrous. The seeds of a Golden Phoenix durian are much smaller and there tends to be thicker flesh for each seed.
Mr Tamir Shanel, Vice President of F & B at Marina Bay Sands, said, "Indigenous to Southeast Asia, the durian has an especially significant history in food culture of Singaporeans. We are excited to be hosting an event that will unite durian aficionados from across the country and region - and we invite them to enjoy this durian feast for two special, memorable nights."
As guests partake in the unlimited free flow durian feast at the Event Plaza with the city skyline in the background, a wide range of other tropical fruits will also be available. Guests will also enjoy a free flow of sweet and refreshing mangosteens, lychees, longans and coconuts to go along with the delicious durian.
To sweeten the deal, a free flow of durian flavoured cream puffs and ice cream will also be available on the buffet line.
