An Early Holiday Gift From Kidfresh For Hungry Kids In New York City

As part of a unique social media campaign, Kidfresh customers and followers could feed hungry children in New York City this holiday season with the click of a button. For each new Facebook fan or Twitter follower of the company and its all-natural, wholesome, yummy kids' meals, Kidfresh donated as many as 30 meals to City Harvest, the world's first and New York City's only food rescue program dedicated to feeding hungry men, women, and children. In addition, bloggers that helped spread the word about Kidfresh's social media campaign were able to raise as many as 300 meals per blog post!

As a result of the campaign, which ran through mid-December, Kidfresh donated more than 80,000 healthy kids' meals-56,895 pounds of food in total. City Harvest delivered the donation to many of the 600 community programs it serves across New York City. Kidfresh's donation will put good food on the table just in time for the holiday celebrations of thousands of families.

Kidfresh actually builds charitable giving into its business model, with a commitment to ensuring that no food is wasted. "One in six New Yorkers doesn't always know where their next meal is coming from, but the situation is even worse for kids: one in four children in New York City lives at risk of hunger[1] ," said Matt Cohen, CEO and founder of Kidfresh. "Kidfresh wanted to make a commitment to feeding as many of them as we could."

"This generous donation couldn't come at a better time," said Jilly Stephens, City Harvest's executive director. "Children have been some of the hardest hit by the downturn in the economy, with programs served by City Harvest reporting, on average, 35% more visits from kids since 2008. These meals are a truly welcome sight at soup kitchens and food pantries."

"We served the Kidfresh meals on the same day they arrived," says Pastor Alfonso Brown of Church of God in Christ Jesus, a soup kitchen in Queens. "It's great to get a contribution like this during this time of year. Struggling families often rely on schools to provide some of their children's daily meals, but due to the holiday break, they rely more on donations to keep their children fed."

This was the second Kidfresh donation to City Harvest this year and it includes each of its six nutritious and vegetable-rich meals for kids: Totally Twisted Pasta & Meatballs, a pasta dish complete with meatballs and tomato sauce hiding a half cup of vegetables; Wagon Wheels Mac + Cheese, an all-time kids favorite enriched with hidden carrots in a creamy cheese sauce; as well as Spaghetti Loops Bolognese, Muy Cheesy Quesadillas, Rainbow Rice & Chicken, and Easy Cheesy Ravioli.
