Eatturkey.com Web Series Welcomes Philadelphia's City Tavern
Beginning in April, the National Turkey Federation (NTF) will showcase Philadelphias City Tavern and Colonial Turkey Pot Pie from the restaurants award-winning kids menu in the Turkey, Savor the Success Web feature series on eatturkey.com.
Created by Walter Staib, chef and proprietor of the City Tavern, an authentic 18th century gourmet American cuisine restaurant, the dish combines tender chunks of turkey with fresh vegetables and cream sauce topped with puff pastry. In addition to the recipe for Colonial Turkey Pot Pie, the web feature will include professional photography and an interview with Chef Staib about how turkey is contributing to his menu.
I never met a child that didnt like turkey, notes Staib. Foods with strong flavors can be offensive to a childs developing palate, so turkeys distinctive yet soft flavor is perfect because it can be made into so many recipes that appeal to even the fussiest eaters. The turkey dishes we offer are our best sellers.
The inspiration for this dish is from 18th century colonial America, yet is has great appeal to todays 21st century children, says NTFs Senior Director of Marketing and Communications Sherrie Rosenblatt. Chef Staibs success with turkey on the City Tavern childrens menu should be a call to action for other operators looking for new kids menu ideas. The database at eatturkey.com is a great place for chefs to start looking for new turkey options for children, as it is searchable by meal type among other criteria.
Each month eatturkey.com will feature a similar turkey success story showcasing commercial and non-commercial operations, menu categories such as salads and cuisines including Mexican. Once eatturkey.com showcases a feature it will be added to a Turkey, Savor the Success page and will continue to be linked to NTFs popular recipe database. Here foodservice professionals can access not only the new dishes, but also a library of more than 650 innovative turkey applications, nine Virtual Menu applications and 30 celebrity chef demonstrations.
