Ebbitt Room Receives Star Diamond Award
CAPE MAY, NJ June 7, 2004 The Ebbitt Room at The Virginia Hotel was presented with the prestigious International Star Diamond Award by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences (AAHS) at a special ceremony today held at the gourmet dining restaurant in Cape May, NJ. Executive Chef, Andrew Carthy, and General Manager, Leif Ericksen, of The Virginia Hotel accepted the award from Karen Dixon, International Trustee, for the AAHS.
According to Leif Ericksen, the International Star Diamond Award is an honor shared not only by Chef Carthy, but the entire staff. It takes a talented and dedicated team of more than 25 people to produce the quality results we demand every meal, every day, Ericksen said. Since becoming Executive Chef three years ago, The Ebbitt Room has consistently been recognized as one of the finest restaurants in Cape May and South Jersey. This award puts The Ebbitt Room in the same company with many of the greatest chefs and fine dining establishments in the world. We are tremendously honored, he added.
A contributing factor to the restaurant's awards and accolades is the rigorous program initiated by Chef Carthy to ensure the highest levels of quality control and customer service. The International Star Diamond Award is bestowed by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences, headquartered in New York City. The AAHS is the only organization that recognizes excellence in the global travel and luxury services sector. Now in its 55th year, nominees for the award must pass a rigorous inspection and review process by the Board of Trustees, comprised of the worlds leading authorities and leaders in the hospitality and culinary field. Among the recipients of the International Star Diamond Award are Alain Ducasse, Jean-George Vongerichten and Ferran Adria.
