E&o Asian Kitchen Reopens In San Francisco

E&O Asian Kitchen, a popular mainstay of the San Francisco restaurant scene formerly known as E&O Trading Co., reopened its doors on July 13 following an extensive renovation. Consulting Executive Chef Arnold Eric Wong's vision to dramatically overhaul the layout required the venue to halt operations for a seven-week hiatus. The culinary team took this opportunity to refresh the menu, delivering new dishes while elevating current crowd favorites.

"San Francisco diners expect an unparalleled culinary experience, and we want to deliver it in an accessible, playful way," said Chef Wong, who led the remodeling process of the restaurant following its opening nearly 15 years ago. "Our primary goal was to enhance the space and push the envelope a bit on the elements that demonstrate to our clientele that we have evolved with their palate."

Chef Sharon Nahm will continue to lead the kitchen in collaboration with Chef Arnold. The enhanced menu will offer additional light bites and creative cocktails, while adding new signature items to the menu such as Asian "Gnocchi": a sumptuous beef filet served with cabbage and rice sticks that resemble gnocchi topped with spicy soy bean sauce. Another new addition is Crudo on a Himalayan Salt Block, featuring wild salmon with pickled green mango, toasted black rice, nori, lemon oil and a micro celery accompaniment or the delicious Lap Souchong Deviled Tea Eggs with chinese bacon.

Of the new menu, Nahm said: "We want our guests to feel comfortable creating their own experience, whether shared plates, light bites or a full meal, while complementing our energetic new lounge and bar program with late night bites and creative cocktails."

Inventive, signature cocktails created by lead bartender Carlos Yturria will inspire guests along with an enhanced bar program including Asian-inspired specialty cocktails such as the "Mirage", made with Kappa Pisco, Pedro Ximnez sherry and Dolin blanc vermouth or the "Gazebo" made with Vodka, pineapple, basil and lemon. The cocktails will be paired expertly with light bites including Wood Oven Roasted Oysters or Ahi Tuna Poke Poppers to share amongst friends. A late night dinner menu will provide light bites and libations for diners and lounge visitors until midnight or closing.

Led by designer Tonya Beluschi of San Francisco's District and Oakland's Pican designs, the restaurant's new layout seamlessly transitions the lounge and dining areas, featuring an open foyer leading to a long, open bar flanking the east wall of the restaurant. Creating more visibility to its Sutter Street frontage, the larger lounge area is expected to attract new customers who might previously have thought of the restaurant as a dinner-only venue.

A blend of traditional Southeast Asian style combined with modern elements was inspired by the crystal clear waters of the Southeast Asian beaches of Bali, Thailand and Sri Lanka. A wash of earth, grey and golden tones imbue the space with tranquility, evoking a feeling of being nestled among overwater bungalows. Further inspired by the South Asia region's natural vegetation, coconut grove and palm motifs will be incorporated into the restaurant's new design.

A new live music program and extended business hours will transform E&O into a nightlife destination while continuing its popularity among dinner guests for inventive Asian cuisine. The renovation also includes an additional private dining banquet room with seating for 18 guests, seeking an intimate space to enjoy special events. General Manager Amanda Bowman will continue to oversee E&O's daily operations and lead the dedicated E&O staff.
