Experience Pommery #9 Exhibit Extended For Summer Guest Curators Claire Staebler & Charles Carcopino Create Eclectic Effervescence With "la Fabrique

Now extended for summer due to popular demand, the Experience Pommery #9 contemporary art exhibit at the Pommery Estate presents 30 outstanding contemporary artists from Zimbabwe to Japan. Aptly titled "La Fabrique Sonore," or "The Sound Factory," the exhibit merges the worlds of sight and sound.

In its ninth year, Experience Pommery, the rotating exhibit found in the underground cellars at the Pommery Estate, showcases a myriad of exhibits from 'Phones' by James Bechket, which consists of 126 telephones originally intended for internal factory communication dating from the 1950s, to Paganini Caprice No. 5 by Cory Arcangel, a series of contemporary video clips matched to classical music. 'Phones' consists of a hard shell with an internal ringing mechanism built from a coil, a small hammer and two bells. The composed sequence excites these functions, using various voltages to in what eventually becomes a literal wall of sound.

The prestigious Pommery cellars opened on the Estate in July of 1868, and together form an underground city-like space. One monumental 116-step staircase is all that connects the cellars to the outside world. Large bas-relief sculptures (chalk drawings) accentuate the spectacular beauty of the Estate's vault galleries, which contain individual bottles of wine. These bas-reliefs are a highlight for visitors on cellar tours and differentiate Pommery.

Coined Experience Pommery, these beautifully preserved bas-relief structures are today juxtaposed against contemporary art exhibitions of world-renowned artists right in Pommery Estate's cellars. Hosted in a fascinating underworld amongst barrel vault galleries and clay tunnels and pyramids, these stunning displays of art work cement the historical pairing of international, contemporary art and Pommery. More than 135,000 guests visited the cellars in 2011 alone.

All visitors to the Pommery Estate may view the exhibit, which is slated to be on display through July 2012.
