The Fairfax Hotel At Embassy Row, A Starwood Luxury Collection Hotel: Significant Then, Extraordinary Now

Opening its doors in 1927, The Fairfax Hotel at Embassy Row, a Luxury Collection Hotel, is one of America's grand hotels. Information is power, and nowhere is that more evident than at The Fairfax Hotel located in the vibrant DuPont Circle neighborhood of our nation's capital. Washington insiders, dignitaries, and global leaders have set up residence at The Fairfax since its inauguration in to the D.C. hotel scene, indulging in the luxurious accommodations and commitment to privacy.

With 259 classically-adorned rooms and suites, a lavish ballroom, and intimate meeting spaces, The Fairfax ensures every stay is worthy of the royalty that have called the hotel home. In 1927, guests began to stay at The Fairfax for the outrageous sum of $4.00 for a suite with a parlor, bedroom, and full bath. On the five-year anniversary of the hotel in 1932, Colonel H. Grady Gore and his wife purchased The Fairfax, and it was during this time that congressmen, senators, and ambassadors began to make the hotel their permanent residence. Prominent tenants over the years have included Mrs. Henry Cabot Lodge, Admiral and Mrs. Chester William Nimitz, and Senator John L. McClellan. Vice President Al Gore lived with his parents in suite 809 in the 1950's and a young George H. Bush and his parents, Senator and Mrs. Prescott Bush, also made The Fairfax their home when in town. In the 1950's, glamour reached new heights at The Fairfax, sealing its destiny as a Washington, D.C. trendsetter, and in 1961, on the evening of President John F. Kennedy's inauguration, the fabled Jockey Club opened. The restaurant became a gathering place for President Kennedy's "Camelot," and Washington elite-infusing The Fairfax yet again with political and social cache.

Over the years The Fairfax has seen a number of changes-including being purchased in 2006 by Pyramid Hotel Group and becoming a member of the elite Luxury Collection by Starwood Hotels & Resorts-and has held fast to the tradition of genuine hospitality that makes it one of America's legendary hotels. Modern enhancements to the classic and historic hotel, including flat-screen T.V.s, superior linens, and an ambiance-setting sound system, the amenities found at The Fairfax continue to surpass expectation. The Fairfax Hotel at Embassy Row embraces its legendary past and continues to raise the bar for current and future guests.
