FIFTY SEVEN TO LAUNCH MONDAY NIGHT DINNER SERIES TITLED “ONE NIGHT ONLY: A DINNER WITH…” FEATURING MENUS CREATED BY CHEFS, MUSICIANS, WRITERS, ARTISTS AND MORE

Over the past few months, Fifty Seven has been a place for a diverse blend of personalities, skill sets and backgrounds all coming together to cultivate a unique atmosphere in Los Angeles’ budding Arts District. To continue with that concept, Fifty Seven will launch an ongoing Monday night dinner series titled, “One Night Only: A Dinner with…” which invites talent from many mediums, from chefs to artists, into the kitchen to collaborate with the Fifty Seven team to create and execute a special menu for the evening. In addition to creating a menu that will only ever be offered on this one night, the guest steward will also be responsible for creating the evening’s playlist as well as choosing the wine that will be paired with the meal. This unique dining experience will be a new take on the average dinner party and allow greater insight into the guest stepping into the kitchen that evening.

Kicking off the series will be Flynn McGarry with the final installment of his Eureka dinners on August 11. With two sold out dates already under his belt, his successful collaboration will end its run and officially launch the Monday night dinner series. On August 18, Nyesha Arrington will step into the kitchen to execute a very meaningful dinner titled “Maison Aisoon - Memories of Grandma’s House” and then on August 25, Jesse Barber will serve up his famous ramen along with several additional inspired dishes that are a departure from what he offers at Barnyard.

One Night Only: A Dinner with Nyesha Arrington – August 18
For her dinner she will present “Maison Aisoon – Memories of Grandma’s House". This dinner is an ode to both Arrington’s Grandmother and her classic French training. Arrington is passionate about both and has found a way to merge the two into a delicious framework for cooking. Tickets are available now at: http://fiftysevenla.com/events/

“My earliest food memories are those of being at my Grandma’s house,” says Arrington. “These have left lasting impressions on my palate and other senses. Grandma Aisoon and I would peel massive amounts of garlic together for a fermented garlic condiment she loved to make. Being able to use these condiments and ban chan always made our dinners exciting! At Grandma’s house, Aisoon would make all kinds of traditional and non-traditional offerings. Another favorite is Mandu, a type of Korean dumpling.”

One Night Only: A Dinner with Jesse Barber – August 25
For Barber’s dinner he will be taking the ramen dish that is near and dear to him and enhancing the offerings even more. Tickets will be available at http://fiftysevenla.com/events/

“I love ramen,” says Barber. “I got into cooking in a round about way. I was going to college but couldn't really afford it, I could pay rent and tuition but I couldn't buy food. Once a month my brother and I would go out to eat at a ramen spot in Eugene called ‘Toshi's’. Looking back, it wasn't that mind blowing or expensive (I think it was $5.50 or so) but it was the highlight of my life. As things do everything fell apart, I quit school, got dumped, and got an internship at Bouchon Bistro in Napa Valley and I have been glued to a kitchen since.

A few years ago I was between jobs and in Portland and stumbled on BIWA, a traditional ramen shop. I worked at BIWA for less than a year, I left to open The Tasting Kitchen and move to LA, but I fell in love with ramen all over again. I used to make it for family meal at Tasting Kitchen and people went nuts for it. So Ramen Tuesday was born at Barnyard so I could eat ramen at least once a week. I wanted to do a bigger grander event centered around ramen and was contemplating how and where to make that happen when I met up with Chef Joshua Drew, things fell into place. With Josh’s team and kitchen, which is awesome to work in, we could do a ramen focused menu but also be able to do some really cool dishes like cold soba or shaved pickle salad that are just not possible for me to do at Barnyard.”
