Flash: Some Like It Hot As South Of The Border Cuisine Heads South Of Houston
When you really dig something, you want nothing more than to see it grow, which is why Dos Caminos fans have something more to celebrate: Just in time for spring, the April opening of Dos Caminos Soho is bringing the fiesta further south.
Expect DC Soho to turn up the heat and set downtown a blaze. So strut your stuff at the second coming of Dos Caminos on the corner of West Broadway and Houston. Just don't expect a carbon copy of DC uptown. Yeah, Yabu Pushelberg (designer of the original Dos Caminos and Blue Fin) gave the place their magic touch with mirrors, warm Mexican-inspired murals, tin patterned tile and lamps, and a refreshing water wall that will surely help wash away memories of winter. But there are some welcomed differences to help Dos Caminos Soho adapt to the buzzing landscape.
Executive Chef Scott Linquist is manning the cocina with more authentic regional Mexican fare. When things get too hot, patrons can score a patio seat in hopes of a cool breeze. Mosey up to the outdoor bar for a refreshing prickly pear margarita and other creative concoctions. Back indoors, the guacamole bar will tempt tummies. You determine the degree of spice as the green stuff is made fresh to your liking. There is an array of tacos and ceviches to choose from. Entrees range from traditional dishes such as Chile Relleno; a fire roasted poblano filled with chicken, manchego cheese with chipotle-tomato salsa and red rice, to the homey Roasted Pork Pibil; slow roasted pork, sweet plantains, habanero pickled onions and achiote sauce. Whatever you fancy, this festive cantina will sauce you up with good food, plenty of tequila (still bringing 150 of the best) and mucho eye candy. So no, it didn't take long for Stephen Hanson and B.R. Guest to spread the love…
DC Soho is hot on the heels of big bro Dos Caminos Park Ave South (born September 2002). But what do you expect? With every big hit there's sure to be a sequel. And this is one you don't want to miss.
Fiesta Forever!
