The Girl & The Fig Debuts First-ever Wine Release

New Vintage Celebrates Famed Restaurant's
10-Year Anniversary

--Toast the 10-year anniversary of one of Sonoma County's favorite restaurants with a glass of the girl & the fig's first release of its own wine. Proprietor Sondra Bernstein and award winning winemaker Jeff Cohn from JC Cellars have partnered to create Trs Bonnes Annes, a 2005 California Syrah. This very limited release will be available August 1, 2007 and available only at the girl & the fig restaurant, the fig caf and the fig pantry. The wine sells for $48 per bottle and a limited 50 cases were made. Customers at the girl & the fig restaurant in Sonoma may order the wine by the glass after August 1.

Trs Bonnes Annes is French for "very good years" and for Bernstein, describes the years since she opened the doors of her first girl & the fig restaurant in August of 1997. In keeping with the restaurant's theme of serving only "Rhone-Alone" wines, Bernstein worked in tandem with friend and winemaker Cohn to create a Syrah customized to her personal French Rhone palate. The wine has flavors of big juicy berry fruit, white pepper, and barnyard nuances. It is rustic with lingering tannins and a velvety mouth feel. Grapes used in the wine come from Sonoma, Santa Barbara, Monterey and Napa, California.

Winemaker Jeff Cohn is well known for his ability to make highly regarded Syrah and other wine varietals. Cohn has an extensive background in wine and food and worked in the tourism industry for several years before joining Rosenblum Cellars as an enologist. He quickly worked his way up to vice president of winemaking and production. In February of 2006 he left Rosenblum Cellars to focus on his own label, JC Cellars.
"Choosing Jeff to produce our first wine was not a difficult decision," says Bernstein. "Over the last ten years of doing business together it became apparent that Jeff and I share a true love and respect for the Rhone Valley. That love has translated into a beautiful wine."

The label design is a joint inspiration between Patti Britton of Britton Design in Sonoma and artist Julie Higgins. Britton is the designer of the "fig" logo and Higgins is the restaurants' resident artist. Higgins painted "Trs Bonnes Annes" especially for the 10 year anniversary with a symbolic showing of 10 luscious figs featured throughout the image.

Bernstein currently owns two restaurants: the girl & the fig at 110 W. Spain Street in Sonoma, and the fig caf & winebar at 13690 Arnold Drive in Gen Ellen. In addition she owns the fig pantry, a gourmet market in Sonoma and four guest cottages called Les Petites Maisons. Bernstein just launched the girl & the fig CATERS! dedicated to providing off-site catering services for weddings, corporate events and private parties. She is the author of the girl & the fig Cookbook published by Simon & Schuster in 2004. For more information please visit www.thegirlandthefig.com.
