"the Immigrant's Table" To Be Performed At Serafina: Eastlake Restaurant Will Host Mary Lou Sanelli For A Reading As Part Of Its "month For Mamma"

On Sunday, May 17, 2009, Mary Lou Sanelli will perform a staged reading of "La Tavola dell'Immigrante, The Immigrant's Table" at Serafina Osteria and Enoteca at 6:30pm.

As a complement to Serafina's celebration of motherhood throughout May, the performance will bring to life Sanelli's book about growing up with and being fed by a true Italian Mamma. This staged reading dramatically and poetically tells a story of immigration, cultural adjustment and weaving Old and New Worlds together into a rich fabric of memoir. Sanelli's staged reading from her book, The Immigrant's Table, includes poetry, storytelling, Italian food & wine: all the elements she so enthusiastically writes about in her story of coming of age first generation American, born to parents from Italy. Sanelli introduces her audience to her family in the most Italian of settings: around a table. And in introducing her family, she also reveals those long-held family recipes for a great meal as well as those for a lively family.

The Seattle Post Intelligencer wrote: "...a dramatic reading by the multi-talented Sanelli, whose engaging and dynamic stage presence expands the reach of the written word...dramatically and poetically telling the story of immigration, cultural adjustment and weaving Old and New worlds together into a rich fabric of memoir."

The Immigrant's Table is just one of "Nonna's Sunday Suppers" that will take place each Sunday during May at Serafina Osteria and Enoteca. Guests will be seated at communal tables creating a family-style atmosphere reminiscent of Sunday Suppers offered by Nonna (the Italian word for Grandmother). On May 17th, for The Immigrant's Table, there will be one seating at 6:30pm at the restaurant, 2043 Eastlake Avenue East. The performance will precede a family style dinner, composed of dishes inspired by the book's recipes. The cost of the event is $50 per person exclusive of tax and gratuity.
