WASHINGTON (October 6, 2008) - K. Vinod, the Chef/Owner of Indique Heights restaurant announces a new series of cooking classes which will navigate diners through the diverse cuisines of India's distinctive regions.
A native of Southern India's Kerala State, Chef Vinod has become a connoisseur of the various cuisines prepared in the four regions of his home country. "Each region has distinct styles and flavors to its cuisine," says Chef Vinod. "Just as New England has its lobster and Texas has its BBQ, each region of India offers a unique spread of incredible dishes."
To give food-lovers a hands-on understanding of India's regional cuisine, Indique Heights will present a series of three interactive cooking classes. Classes begin on October 18th with North Indian cuisine and continue once per month through December.
Class Schedule
October 18: Northern India
From Jammu and Kashmir to Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, Northern Indian cuisine has many central Asian influences due to its geographical location. Due to its extreme weather conditions there is an abundance of seasonal ingredients, which Chef Vinod will showcase in dishes such as the vegetable samosa.
November 2: Southern India
The rich flavors of Southern India pay homage to the exotic spices found in the region, which include, cardamom, pepper corns, nutmeg, cinnamon , and many others. In this class Vinod will demonstrate dishes such as the Kerala Fish Curry inspired by the coastal location of Southern India and Lemon Rice, a component that no Southern Indian dish would be complete without.
December 3: The Street Snacks of India
In the grand finale of this cooking class series Vinod will demonstrate India's iconic street snacks. This class includes 9 dishes that range from the Mini Dosa, representing Southern India to Bhelpuri from the West.
The Journey Through India cooking classes are $55 each and are inclusive of a cooking demonstration, a three course lunch with wine, and recipe cards for each dish. All classes run from 12 noon to 3pm. Reservations are required and may be made by calling the restaurant at (301) 656-4822.
