Instead Of Carving The Turkey This Thanksgiving Put A Spoon In It With Salt & Straw Ice Cream Flavors

PORTLAND, Ore. (Aug. 15, 2013) - Salt & Straw Ice Cream puts together a series of Thanksgiving flavors that covers all of the holiday's necessities- cranberries, stuffing, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, mincemeat pie and even the turkey. The series brings new life to traditional holiday dishes, while exploring the best farms, artisans and producers Oregon has to offer, packaged in the universally favorite treat of ice cream! The pints are the perfect add on to any Thanksgiving meal or for those that can't make it home; to send to show they can still contribute to the big meal, in a fun new way.

"We're spicing up traditional Thanksgiving dishes by putting our own unique take on dishes like sweet potatoes and candied pecans and apple cranberry stuffing. What better way to update a classic dish than using the finest Oregon ingredients and putting it in ice cream, pleasing the young and young at heart at any Thanksgiving table" says Salt & Straw owner and culinary director, Kim Malek.

The Thanksgiving variety packs are $65 and available for direct to consumer shipping through Salt & Straw's website http://www.saltandstraw.com. The flavors will also be available by the scoop or in pints at all Salt & Straw scoop shops, Nov. 1 - Nov. 29.

Thanksgiving Series:

Salted Caramel Thanksgiving Turkey

All the flavors of a roasted turkey, its juices and the caramelized onions underneath are packed into this sweet and salty caramel ice cream.

Apple Cranberry Stuffing

Cranberries, apples, and a variety of spices are used to flavor a hearty bread pudding of fresh baked, white bread. This is highlighted by a uniquely, celery-sweetened ice cream.

Mincemeat Pie

A holiday spiced ice cream frames this medley of dried figs, cherries, currants, and apples that have been slowly steeped in brandy and fresh citrus.

Sweet Potato and Candied Pecans

A puree of sweet potatoes in this ice cream, along with gooey marshmallow fluff and roasted pecans, creates a dessert reminiscent of that sweet, caramelized, mushy mess that always took up the largest corner of the Thanksgiving plate when we were kids.

Pumpkin Custard Swirled in Spiced Chevre

Pumpkin custard, the filling that makes Pumpkin Pies so delicious, is piped into a spiced Chvre ice cream. The locally produced chvre is tart and rich like a goat cheese cheesecake.
