Power Lunch Tiffins
Junnoon's patio offers an ideal midday respite from the office and an opportunity to try one of chef Pant's "tiffins." The term dates back to 19th century Mumbai, when the British community wanted to have hot lunches delivered from home to their workplaces. An elaborate tiffin system was developed, relying on a network of delivery men, called "dabbawallas. Still in use today, the system relies on a complex scheme of color-coded tiffin lunch boxes to deliver tens of thousands of meals to workplaces all over the city. Junnoon's tiffins include an entre, a green salad and a side dish. A chutney or raita and bread or rice are also part of each tiffin.
Tiffins are $18 each and feature Junnoon favorites, such as chicken tikka, staff meal lamb stew, Pacific Coast tandoor-grilled halibut, mushroom chickpea "tikki" and black pepper steak.
