DETAILS:Kendall-Jackson's Annual Heirloom Tomato Festival celebrates America's favorite vegetable, or is it a fruit? More than 175 varieties of heirloom tomatoes in every size, shape and color imaginable are picked fresh from the Culinary Gardens at the Kendall-Jackson Wine Center. These celebrated tomatoes are grown from seeds gathered around the world. The festival raises money for school gardens in the North Bay and features 50 gourmet food purveyors, Kendall-Jackson wines, food and wine seminars, a garden-inspired juried art festival, garden tours, live entertainment with Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers and more. Guests at the festival receive a commemorative wine tasting glass, a food tray and tickets for food and wine sampling.

More than 50 North Coast food producers will be joined by local and Bay Area chefs and restaurateurs, including the Lark Creek Restaurant Group chefs from Yankee Pier, One Market, Parcel 104, and Lark Creek Inn. Taste six versions of tomato bruschetta at "Bruschetta Blvd." Other food producers and purveyors include: DaVero Olive Oil, Mary's Pizza Shack, Bellwether Farms, Clover Stornetta Farms, Jimtown Store, Heirloom Ketchup, Laloo's Goat Milk Ice Cream Company, Socora's Salsas, San Francisco Soup Company, Aidell's Sausage Company, Third Street Aleworks and Gotta Havit Desserts. Restaurants include: Windsor's Langley's on the Green; Rohnert Park's Latitude; Santa Rosa's John Ash & Company and Nectar at the Hilton; Brannan's in Calistoga; and San Francisco's rnm restaurant, Delfina and Sutro's at the Cliff House.
MAJOR SPONSOR:Food & Wine Magazine is the sponsor of this year's Chef's Challenge, featuring some of the best new chefs in America. Last year's winner, John Besh of New Orlean's restaurant August and Besh Steakhouse, will return as a competition judge.
