Live Latin-cooking Show Set To Sizzle In New Orleans On Wlae-pbs Channel 32
In the city that is home to the likes of Paul Prudhomme, Emeril Lagasse, John Besh, and Susan Spicer it is a unique surprise that WLAE-PBS channel 32 is set to launch a 13 episode Live Latin cooking show by years end. The city of New Orleans will enjoy a live cooking show that will showcase young chef Joaquin Farinas as the pilot with local renowned chefs doing their interpretations of Latin classics. The experienced WLAE-PBS team of Jim Dotson and Ron Jaeger will produce the 30-minute show with their experienced staff. The PBS dream team is responsible for the number one rated show in the city "Cooking With Leah Chase".
Now more than ever you see different ethnic ingredients and techniques being used on some of the top tables in the city and none are more obvious than Latin and Spanish staples. Over the last few years we have seen the demand for Latin culture grow in this city and the numbers continue to rise. Many nationally respected food publications including Gourmet, Bonn Appetite, and Williams & Sonoma have claimed Latin cuisine the new undisputed ethnic champion and New Orleans is becoming a Mecca for chefs to express these bold flavors.
The 13 live shows will include some of the cities top chefs and sommeliers that will be doing cooking demos and wine pairings respectively. The local chefs and sommeliers will interact to promote the growth of Latin cooking and culture in New Orleans. It will also serve as a stage for the next generation of professionals to show off their abilities in cooking and wine pairings. The themes will include Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Chile, Brazil, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Haiti, Peru and Colombia in a show combining both cuisines.
Tickets and reservations will be needed to attend any of the 13 shows were four lucky guest will sit at a food bar were they will taste the items cooked by Chef Joaquin Farinas and his guest chefs. The 27-year-old Joaquin Farinas is a Johnson & Wales University graduate with professional stops in France, Spain, Mexico, Miami, and Boston. Born to a Spanish father and Nicaraguan mother most of his childhood years were spent in New Orleans were he started cooking at the age of 17. He brings regional Latin food to life with bold-balanced flavors and vivid presentations.
The shows mission is to educate, entertain, and promote Latin culture, local talent, and the foods of Latin America. The show will take on different role than traditional public television cooking shows have in the past making it a refreshing change from the expected.
