Maine's No. 10 Water Restaurant Launches Group Cooking Classes
The Captain Daniel Stone Inn (www.captaindanielstone.com), Brunswick, Maine's recently top-to-bottom renovated historic inn, today announced the launch of "Cooking with Chef Mains," a new, ongoing series of participatory cooking classes taught by Troy Mains, executive chef at the Inn's on-site No. 10 Water Restaurant.
The participatory group classes will begin Wednesday, December 1, and will be offered every Wednesday through Friday on an ongoing basis from either 1-3 p.m., 2-4 p.m. or 3-5 p.m., based on availability. Each class is open to private parties of eight to 20 people and will take place in the large, completely refurbished kitchen at No. 10 Water (10 Water Street in Brunswick).
Each class ($55 per person) includes preparation of a four-course, custom-designed chef menu with an emphasis on using local, seasonal ingredients. Mains, a veteran of such restaurants as Maine's Fuel, 555 and Robinhood Free Meetinghouse, will walk class participants through each step of the cooking process as they learn to make appetizers, side courses, entres and desserts in No. 10 Water's open kitchen. After they've prepared their cuisine, participants are invited to enjoy their own creations accompanied by complementary wine pairings in the restaurant's inviting dining room.
Mains sees the classes as an ideal fit for home cooks who want to hone their basic skills and learn new techniques, and for fans of all things culinary who'd love to create sophisticated meals for their own dinner parties and events.
"I love sharing tried-and-true cooking techniques," said Chef Mains. "Cooking is often seen as daunting to a lot of people, and that doesn't have to be the case. Our courses at No. 10 Water are designed to teach guests innovative but approachable recipes and techniques that they'll be able to replicate on their own."
No. 10 Water was recently awarded a 3 star review from The Portland Press Herald and has earned praise since its May 2010 launch for its friendly service, innovative fare, and inviting ambiance. Its "Cooking with Chef Mains" classes are suitable for gatherings ranging from holiday events and corporate team-building meetings, to unique bridal parties, lunch with friends, and family get-togethers.
