Mk The Restaurant Hosting A Fundraiser Dinner To Support Urban Farm Sweet Water Organics

mk The Restaurant has always been a passionate supporter of local and sustainable farming. On Wednesday, October 19th, the restaurant will be hosting a private fundraiser dinner benefitting Sweet Water Organics Foundation. The dinner will also celebrate the passage of the Urban Agriculture and Aquaponics Bill that City Council recently passed. Mayor Rahm Emanuel who is a big supporter of urban agriculture, will be attending the dinner. The menu will feature dishes made with ingredients from local urban farms such as the Comer Center Rooftop Garden and City Farm.

Sweet Water Organics is a unique urban farm in Milwaukee that uses aquaponics to simultaneously grow plants and fish. mk will serve the same perch that was on the menu at President Obama's 2012 re-election fundraiser dinner in April. Sweet Water Organics Foundation is also working with many Chicago Public Schools, such as the Whitney Young and Perspectives Charter School, to teach kids how to build and maintain aquaponics and other urban agricultural techniques. The Executive Director, Emmanuel Pratt, recently joined the staff of Chicago State University, which is developing a large-scale aquaponics system.

The evening will start at 5:30 p.m. with hors d'oeurves and cocktails while Mr. Pratt makes a presentation about Sweet Water Foundation's programming in Chicago and Milwaukee. The dinner featuring produce and meat from local urban farms will follow at 6:30 p.m.
